A MATTER OF COURSE

"Golf is a day spent in a round of strenuous idleness" - William Wordsworth.

Of course we can't all be writing poetry so golfing is probably not a bad option.
Not that I am capable.
My one and only attempt ended with me acknowledging that one must be able to at least hit the ball. As I was not having any luck with that, I passed my bucket of balls to another, rubbed my shoulder and sat and watched others who were able to make the connection of club to ball.

For those who really know what they are doing, Opotiki Golf Club offers a testing 70 par course. There are some great views out to hills and sea to be enjoyed (if not spending all your time searching for stray shots) and fairways and greens that are well looked after.
"The ardent golfer would play Mt Everest if someone put a flag stick on top"- Pete Dye

A dedicated band of locals and visitors enjoy the challenges of the course, the competitive play, the companionship, and undoubtedly the after match debriefings held in the clubrooms.

Whether a fan or not, the course is a very attractive part of our town.

"All I've got against it is that it takes you so far from the clubhouse"
- Eric Linklater 1929

"BUY LAND - THEY'RE NOT MAKING IT ANYMORE"

Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) was not only a gifted author, he was also a very quote worthy man. The title quote I have used, is as relevant today as it was when first said.

Whether the land is bare of buildings or every scrap is used by various formed structures, it's an investment individually or collectively in your future.

And now is the time to invest.

What's in this for you?

Affordable properties will not be around forever, especially with the bright future predicted for Opotiki.

So folks, get a lifestyle, opportunity is knocking, don't miss out, life starts here, (enough of the cliche's) and consider putting your money where our (river)mouths are and join us where there is land, lots of land.

Don't let this be your epitaph.

"I was seldom able to see an opportunity until it ceased to be one" - Mark Twain.

NOT JUST ANY OLD PORT

Here is a pleasant situation, and yet nothing pleasant to be seen. Here is a harbour without ships, a port without trade, a fishery without nets, a people without business; and, that which is worse than all, they do not seem to desire business, much less do they understand it. - Defoe, Daniel

The harbour entrance consents have been granted, pending a three-week-long period for appeals to be lodged.

No matter what side of the wharf you sit on regarding this development the independent commissioners making the decision gave all sides of the argument a fair go.

As reported in the Opotiki News, with a project this size there will be significant actual and potential adverse effects on the coastal environment so consent conditions ensured that a "precautionary approach" was taken that would avoid, remedy or mitigate those effects.

Although very early days in the greater scheme of things, it is estimated that both the harbour and aquaculture projects could produce a significant number of jobs and would make Opotiki a major player in the greater Bay of Plenty region.

Our economic time has come. Don't miss out.

In a very lighthearted vein, but with an element of truth to it, the following is how we may perceive our properties are viewed.
